“Con la guerra viene attivata la censura. [...] Ma la censura andò ben oltre il moralismo sessuofobo e la repressione dell’opposizione politica. Ci fu anche e soprattutto una censura silenziosa, estesa a livello europeo a tutti gli organi di informazione indistintamente, e riguardava l’epidemia più terribile nella storia dell’umanità, la cosiddetta “influenza spagnola" [...]. Sono rarissime le immagini e le notizie che la documentano. In questo catalogo, per esempio, non c’è libro o documento che la menzioni. I mezzi di informazione tutti perfettamente allineati ai governi tacevano. Che potevano saperne i futuristi? Alla censura risposero con le parole in libertà. Non riuscirono nemmeno a raccontare, vivendolo, l’orrore della guerra. La vittoria, più o meno mutilata, spense la seconda e più terribile ondata: non se ne parlò più..." (dal testo introduttivo).

There was also and above all a silent censorship, extended at European level to all information means without distinction, and concerned the most terrible epidemic in the history of humanity, the so-called “Spanish flu” [...]. Images and news that document the “Spanish flu” are very rare, both in Italy and in Europe. In this catalog, for example, there is no book or document that mentions it. [...] All means of information, perfectly aligned with the governments, was silent. What could the futurists know? To the censorship they responded with the words in freedom. They didn’t even manage to tell, living it, the horror of the war. The victory, more or less “mutilated”, extinguished the second and the most terrible wave: it was never mentioned again..."
